when you're sitting in the car, you very gently pry up the plastic surround from the edge closest to you. once it comes off, there are just two screws holding the clock in.
the surround is very very brittle, so chances of breaking it are really high. new ones are available, and not too expensive, but if you dont feel like replacing it, it is better to just leave it alone

86 RX7 clock bezel installation
Thank you very much for your recommendation on the bezel removal on the RX7 86. I had bought a new bezel and had to remove the old one then hopefully install the new on without damaging it.
