3rd Gen Radio noise...

I was driving along when a noise like a bad bearing started. It was ear splitting in the cabin with the windows open.

At first I thought it might be the clutch release bearing going bad, it had a dry bearing burnout sound.

I decided to turn off the radio to see if I could hear the noise better and the noise went away. But each time I turned the radio back on the noise came back - extremely loud - no matter what the volume **** was set to and no matter to which station the radio is tuned.

I pulled over and attempted to record the sound, but it stopped.

Getting back on the road, I fiddled with the radio and could not make the noise come back. But fifteen minutes later it reemerged on it's own. Unfortunately, I still was not able to get the phone out in time to record the sound.

So, I have no idea where to start.

My first guess is to remove the center speaker (Original OEM Bose system) to see if it has gone bad.

Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions as to how to diagnose this without dismantling anything?

Thanks.

I had a similar noise, bose as well. It was a bad amp. Replaced it and everything was fine.

Yes, sounds like bad amps and/or speakers. There are OE replacements you can get directly from Bose Automotive.

Thanks... I'll keep that in mind. I have not heard the noise since and will wait until it comes back.
