3rd gen audio upgrades

I just bought a 93 touring model and I want to upgrade the audio system. It was in Virginia and I think I blew either one of the back speakers or the bose thing on th driver side. It makes this ticking sound under hard bass. I read on an earlier thread that it should either be removed or replaced totally. I am not that attached to the bose thingy. My problem is that I want to keep the black cover thing in the back, but the bose wave thing can go and my spare is already gone. I talked to some guys at a local audio shop and they said I need to take the cover thing out if I want to fit two 10" subs in there. Has anybody made a custom box or has a setup that fits in there that sounds decent? Or would replacing the stock components be a better route? I would like to see some pictures of how it looks and what setups people are running. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I agree. Replace the whole system. There are folks out there you can find on the net that fix the Bose components but I found the $ to fix = $ to replace.

The Bose system in the Rex is better than the average OE stereo but for the same $ you can put in a nice system.

BTW, keep the parts. Later on, the car is worth more if the original parts are available.

PM'ed you T88, and thanks for the advice about keeping the stock parts. I researched it a bit more last night and I think it sounds like I may have blew one of the amps. Anyways, I'll probably replace the whole thing after all. If anybody has any pictures or advice on what looks and sounds good in a 3rd gen, I would be pleased to hear about it. Thanks!
