3rd Gen Antennas

Pulled a Homer Simpson Monday, went to the car wash with the radio still on. The power antenna is toast!

I know the rear window also has an antenna, I have an aftermarket head unit and I am wondering how well using JUST the window antenna would work?

Anyone know where to get an adaptor to allow me to connect the Small antenna lead from the window antenna to the standard size antenna connection on the head unit?

Alternatively, where can I get the best price on a replacement mast?

I thinking if the window antenna is Ok, I'd prefer to go that route and just fill in the hole for the power antenna. Weight savings and better looks.

Thanks in advance!

I think you are referring to the rear defogger/defroster.

Nope, there is an antenna in there as well. Check your stereo (At least on the touring model) there are 2 antenna leads, one normal size one going to the power antenna, one smaller one going to the rear window antenna.

The stock Bose unit would pickup the stronger of the two signals.

The rear antenna may not do it all , but all is not lost. Garfinkle removed the electric one and has a simple cheap one hidden in the rear hatch area . The rear window is also hooked up as well. Where did he hide it ? No one knows because he hid it ,,, Call him 615-893-4469. he said the mount hole was there already .

I stopped in a local car audio/wheel place. They had an adaptor from Small to Large, then I used the Male-to-Male large that was on the power antenna to connect it up.

I haven't driven anywhere with the rear window antenna yet, but it seemed to pickup well in my drive way.

It would be nice to ditch the pwr antenna, less weight and a cleaner look after the Pwr antenna hole is filled in and painted.

As far as a HIDDEN antenna, the shop said they have Under dash antennas, however they were out at the time.

FYI: I went for a couple of weeks with JUST the rear window antenna. To my surprise it actually seems to be picking up BETTER than the power antenna.

Anyway, I ripped out the power antenna, rear wiper, and wiper nozzle before having it painted. I think it's a lot cleaner looking. I'm especially happy to get rid of the big ugly Wiper arm.

I also removed all the emblems. I caught a guy in a Honda S2000 really checking the car out at a stop light today.
