I have the alpine type x speakers, about 250 for a component set. I would match those up to against mid to high mb quarts. I have the 9815 alpine head unit running to the alpine type x speakers, with 2 jl amps and 2 jl w6 subs. I run the speakers off the amps and they sound amazing. The 9835 is 60x4 max..so thats like 23rms per speaker..... and I think the type r speakers are like 50 rms? Not quite sure, but running them off an amp would proablly make it sound a little bit better.

A separate amp isn't going to improve the sound quality unless you are listening at quite loud levels.
*Did you mount the 5x7 rears on a baffle? If there is airspace around the driver, there will be no bass.
*It sounds like you need to RTFM and learn how to use your fancy new head unit. Perhaps you have a poor EQ curve going to them right now and don't know it.
*What are your front speakers?

Are the speakers properly mounted?
Like I said, you need to RTFM and figure out how to use your head unit. The best idea to start off with is to turn all that eq, super bass, etc. crap off and see how it sounds with the system running flat. If you decide you don't like the sound, make small changes one at a time.
As far as EQ curves go, I prefer listening to a flat frequency response. Most casual listeners, however, prefer the classic "v-shape", in which the lowest and highest frequencies are boosted more than the mid frequencies. Any EQ shaping is completely dependent on the speakers, acoustical environment, and individual taste.

Deck looks good. Can you get the button illumination to match the other lighting?
http://www.alpine-usa.com There is Alpine's website, you will need to register for the i-personalize and take it from there. Other option would be to check some car audio forums like www.caraudioforums.com
Have fun, I've heard the new eq's can be a real pain to configure.
