every time I post a comment on somebody's thread it always makes me subscribe is there a way I could turn that off so i dont subscribe

You should be able to unsubscribe to any thread by going to

USER CP (top left hand corner)
View All Subscribed Threads

Find and check the thread you want to unsubscribe from

Go to bottom of page, pick Delete Subscription from drop down menu, GO

Hope that works for you.

OR: I actually found sort of center right top of thread when you open it there is

Thread Tools

Click on it and drop down bar apears with a few options
One which is Unsubscribe from this thread
Click on it and whalla Done

is there a way to unsub by default? and only use thread tools to sub?

when I try to unsub using the link that is emailed for the forum, I get an error: invalid tread ID.

Go to the forum "stickies" and read the one called "A tutorial". That will make it clear and show you how to select your choices easily. As a newbie, I found it very helpful.
