question about buying items from people from here??
 

there is an item on here that someone wants to sell me. i was wondering what is the safest way to buy that item?? is pal pal the way most people do it or is there a safer/easier method?? thank you!

First and foremost...if this is a result of your WTB thread, make sure all negotiations are done in the thread and not by outside lines of communication, ie., texting, a phone call, PM's only, etc. This is to protect everyone with clear disclosure terms that cannot be deleted or changed by anyone except the RX-7 Club Classifieds Mods...and we ain't gonna do that.

It depends on the amount for me. Big stuff, PayPal for sure...under $30? I send cash ina birthday or Christmas card.

Make sure you check out their iTrader feedback also. ;)

Quite welcome and I can't believe no one else had their two cents to chime in with...talk about an easy post to make and get another post count.

We're here to protect the membership from scammers and going through the threads is way easier than sifting through PM's which may be deleted before we get to them. We need to see the facts before we quarter an offender.

No worries on PayPal anyways, before they would only cover items that were sold through eBay, they've revised that and now you can file a claim for anything transaction, through eBay or a private transaction :)

Yea, and one step further for protection, is to use a credit card through paypal, that way if for whatever reason, paypal only covers a portion of the loss, your credit card will cover the rest. I speak from experience on this. I was burned for a $750 tranny, and paypal only refunded me $150. I filed a fraud report with my cc, and the balance was removed.

People will def chime in on good sellers, search the feedback threads and look to itrader score vs post count.

ALWAYS use Credit Card to pay through Paypal. Paypal doesn't give a damn about you for the most part. There is a reason they try and scare you out of using a CC when you make a purchase through Paypal.

I've always paid through PayPal when purchasing parts on another fourm and have never had any issues.Most of the people here are going to be upfront but you will always have that one dead beat ,so check them out .If they stick you let people know.

When doing a Transaction,keep ALL PM's.keep them even after you have got the part.
there is a Reason that you can Save 500 Pm's!..use the Pm's IF something goes wrong.
I look at the History of the seller,His previous posts,attitude,etc,.\If something does not "jive" I usually do not Deal.

Having stated that, the mgmt prefers replies in the thread itself over PM's (Which can be altered...) any day of the week. ;)

I all ways use paypal. not only is it the safest for the buyer, it's also safest for the seller. Plus you have each other information so scamming through there is tough to accomplish

Is using paypal with your bank linked the same as using a CC in regards to scams? And does it matter if its debit or credit? I don't want to end up stuck with an expensive paperweight the same as anyone else.

You can link it to whatever you want. Then you can select which method you want when it is time to pay. I got burned on Ausrotary pretty bad. I bought 300 bucks worth of suspension stuff and the guy shipped it via Seamail...that was back in october. They said it would take 3-6months to get my stuff, but I just feel like its not coming.

Unless I buy a crap load of items from a single person, this will usually fit in the 300 char "Notes" box.

As for iTrade, there is a small "Trader Score: (#)" under their S/N. Click that #.

I haven't located any other way to look up someones iTrader score except to search for their posts and clicking that number.

The Good Guy/Bad Guy section of the website also makes interesting reading to get a better handle on who is a consistently solid Seller or Buyer.

You have more protection buying on ebay, rather than buying with paypal on a forum.

PayPal outside of ebay has less protection, all they need is proof of delivery, on ebay it's a little more strict and you have the feedback systme.

For instance, I bought some exercise equipment, I though since I was covered through paypal. Well the equipment was counterfeit, I called paypal, no recourse since it was outside of ebay.

also, regardless of what the seller requests, if you dont know them, do NOT send $ as a gift through paypal.

yes, its true, there are less/no fees involved, but in doing so, you give up your buyers protection.

I only send money like that to people i trust. bear in mind its also against the TOS of paypal, so they could lock your account if they see thats what happened.

That must have been a pretty costly to ship too, sucks you got jewed. I have had the same issue with buying injectors that only 3 were good. They really do only care that it arrived even if a shop were to do all the work professionally.

You have to take caution when using Paypal as well as both the buy and as the seller. I had a guy buy a turbo off of me, I sent the turbo after he paid, and the day he got it, he filed a claim stating it wasn't what he purchased and he did a charge back on his credit card he paid with and I was out the turbo and the collected the money out of my account and locked my account! Paypal isn't always a "safe bet" like some people think. The seller can easily get scammed as well.
