Zeroing timing

I'm trying to zero the timing on my car and I notice that it tells you to put a value of -5 degrees into the timing lock to do so. For some reason the DOS software wont connect to the thing so I don't know if it's just the windows software that is giving me a problem or if I'm looking at it wrong. How do you guys go about zeroing it? Should I just set it at zero and then drop my trigger angle that I started the car at by 5 degrees?

No. You must lock the timing at -5 degrees. In the windows software you set timing lock to -5 and enable the timing lock. If you do not lock the timing it will drift while you futz with the CAS. You should be able enter -5 as the timing lock value. Are you running the final release of the windows software?

Also, if your DOS software does not connect, are you using XP or 2k? I find it works fine on 2k but I have heard of trouble on XP.

With dos software it tries to connect, shows the firmware version and then just doesn't do anything after that. I am using XP.

it's all good if you use a dos boot disk.

that's happened to me a few times. how i got past it was going into the com port settings and trying stuff until it connected.

maybe run the program in offline mode then go into the settings menu...check to see if you're on com 1 or com 2.... then go into your com port settings and make sure that's all good...

if that doesn't work, i've tried adjusting things within the port settings (right click my computer, properties, device manager, ports...) under properties, mine are set at: bps 9600,db 8,parity none, stop bits 1, flow control none....

i can't tell you if that will work for you--only that's where mine are and it works for me.

lemme know if that helps

took the easier road and just reformatted it to 2k. Works great.
