Windows 98 + toshiba = no connection e6k

I know it's not the ecu, because before I swapped my motor it was running fine. I previously broke the old laptop that ran haltech fine, so I bought this laptop.

The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite 4030 CDT. Running windows 98, celeron processor. I can run haltech program offline no problem, but when trying to connect it doesn't even attempt to have a signal. (This is with the db9 serial port connector)

When I hook up haltech to my pc serial port, it'll attempt to connect but says I need a later verison of haltech. I have the 6.34 verison. I ran it on my vaio no problem before the hard drive crashed.

I am trying to have the satellite connect to haltech so I can redo my map, since I am running a different set up. Is there a graphic requirement for the laptop to connect to haltech?

Ecu is working fine, since my old map is some what decent. Just super pig rich. If someone can please help me out.

Thanks,
Bud.

I have a similar old toshiba (4300) with windows 98. My laptop works fine but if I'm in windows and try to run the e6k v6.34, it doesn't connect in "online" mode either. I guess it's just something with windows 98. Instead, I made a boot menu that lets me directly load the e6k (before windows boots). I am able to connect fine if I start and use DOS directly.
