windows 98 Software problem

I'm getting some pixelly chunks where there should be spaces on a fresh install on my Compaq Armada M700 laptop with a ATI rage mobility graphics card running windows 98 SE. Anyone seen this problem and know of a solution? I can dig up my copy of 2k if I have to but I just redid it with 98 and would like to keep it this way. Thanks -Zach-

I just noticed that they make compaq software but I can't find any for the E6X. I suppose they didn't make it expecting that people would move to the winx version? I have my timing set right so I can probably go ahead and work in windows again (it wouldn't let me set it to -5 on the winx software).
