You can run what ever takes your fancy, the best way is simply using the factory ignitino module and coils, and playing with the dwell time on the ignition setup. Other options is to take all that out and get the LS1 coils tha haltech is now selling a lot of and they have their own built in igniters and are small and compact that they can be mounted anywhere. Also going with new sparkplug cables is a pretty good idea too. You can also shoot for the Haltech/Bosch igniters.

Then there's the more expensive MSD option, which has a few options in it self. Either with 3 MSD boxes and the stock coils, or 2 DIS 2 units, or MSD coils, what ever you feel like.

AEM has apparently re-released their C2DI with improved hardware quality, i dont know if they have it for the rotary.

The sky is the limit. I would just start out with the stock components changin what ever is brittle, damaged or broken, and go from there, if you will be pulling oodles of uberpower from your powerlant, then go with a more powerful ignition system.

Cheap and easy is use the stock ignition stuff.

Expensive and bulletproof means going Autronic or MoTeC 4-channel CDI, set Haltech to Direct Fire, and run 4 aftermarket coils.

There have been feedback on these "new" AEM CDI boxes, and they are still crap.
There has been at least one thread in here (some other section though) that says that.

No direct experience yet - we're going to run 6 of them on the 20B soon.

That same article about the CDI boxes also goes into a little on those LS1 coils - they claim they are crap too.

Yeah, im dying to use them, i was in Haltech's office in California this past october, and i saw their Tech guy, dave's rx-7 with those LS1 coils with an E8 and he says they work pretty good. But, i would like to have them, say on a 800hp supra motor, , to see if they take the abuse.

The rotary would demand more from the coils than the Supra would. Trust me on that one. I have friends that even prefer the TII coils over the Electromotive ones) on their 1400 rwhp combinations.

Well, im also a big fan of the stock TII coils, i know that if they are in good condition they will last a very long time and fire big spark. My question is, in those big HP applicatons, are those guys using the stock ignition module for the TII coils or external? What kind of settings?
