Dyno tuning is not REQUIRED... if you have experience tuning, you can do it yourself with a wideband on the road. But, if not, taking it to a dyno shop and having it tuned is your best option.

Sorry, i don't know of any shops around.

the only shop in southern california I have experience with is Mech Tech Motorsports in Escondido(north of San Diego). they did a great job on our turbo II race car and are an authorized Haltech dealer. they only work on race cars or off highway type vehicles though. I am going to try a new shop in Palmdale that claims to have Haltech experience. Once the car is done I will give you all the info.

I want to get the vehicle Dyno tuned, because I have no experience with Haltech or tuning it...
I've heard that if vehicle is not tuned correctly you can lose your motor rather quickly and with having $3,000 invested into motor that is not cool!!!!

I plan on installing the Haltech myself, but I want someone else to tune the car.... That way the job is done right the first time....

If you have any info that is going to help me get my car tuned and registered in Cali please let me know....
Man, Cali is a bitch but I love it Here....

Good luck getting hte car smogged out here in CA with a Haltech. It is not CARB certified nor legal for use on public roads in CA

I have been to Jim's shop (MechTech) and he definately knows rotaries as far as the Haltech goes. I may have him tune mine in the next few weeks. What did the costs look like Tim on your session? How long did he have it on the dyno? How close was it when you took it to him?

He is like 10 minutes from my house

There is another shop around the corner from him that does dyno tuning. Fabtech is the name of the shop. They have ads in the more popular compact car mags. I haven't talked with him for pricing yet, but I think I will compare prices with Jim at Mechtech and go with the lower. They both do dyno tuning, but Jim has an infloor dyno, and Fabtech has a hub dyno.

Correction to my above post...

The shop is F-Max, not fabtech...I don't know what the hell I was thinking =) Jhame is the persons name to talk to there.

And Jim does work on street legal cars. Most of his work is street cars. The other part is sand rails and race cars. I have no idea on tuning, but I would guess $300-$400 for a 2-4 hours. Tim?

Jim charged us $500(maybe more now this was 2 years ago) to tune the car. the original map was from Rotary Performance and was not very good. Jim said he had the car on the dyno for 2-3 hours(I don't know for sure since I was not there when he tuned the car) and he did all the computer work. the car ran perfect, started easily, and had good fuel economy. My only problem is that it takes me a couple weeks to get the car done. one saturday to drop it off and one saturday to pick it up. if you are close by the I would set an appointment. As for his competition I believe it is a ex employee that started a shop close by. my suggestion is go to the teacher first. As for street cars I thought he stayed away from non smog legal modifications. The Haltech is not and will probably never be CARB certified so this modification will never be "smog legal". yes I know there are stories of people getting there car to pass and getting it registered. this is still not "legal" just the fact that they hid it from the inspector or had the inspector look the other way. good luck on the street cars and I would not hesitate to have MechTech work on my race cars, they did a great job for us.

My goal is to build a 400 rwHP street-legal Rx!!!!

I have asked a couple of Smog Inspection stations about what they look for and response has been fairly the same....
"We look for emissions equipment such as Cat, mufflers, Egr, O2, Charcoal Cannister, ACV and Etc..."

I really would like to make this happen so if anyone has any tips for making this happen let me know.....
