Reconnect Haltech

I just wanted to warn any of you haltech owners out there about a problem I just experienced with the haltech software. It is not compatable with windows 2000 NT. When I installed it on my computer the software began to have trouble communicating with the ecu. It would intermittently flash "reconnect Haltech" while I was trying to download and upload maps, so beware!!

remember that the Haltech program is a DOS program. using an old laptop without all the newer gadgets seems to work best. try running in DOS mode if this is even an option on your computer. I had a similair problem trying to use my PC instead of the laptop I normally use.

I tried that and it didn't work. It worked fine in win95 but when I switched to NT it started acting funny. I'm going to install win98. Hopefully that will work well.

Allow me to intervene in this dilema.

You can get the Haltech software to work in Win2k. Here's what you need to do.

Create a shortcut of the program to the desktop. Click on that shortcut and go to properties.. Click on Memory and set Expanded and Extended memory to the highest setting, make sure that the "Uses HMA" is checked. Everything else should be left on "Auto". Click on the "Screen" tab and make sure it is set to FullScreen.

It should work by double-clicking the shortcut icon. I haven't tested the actual communication across COM1 though. As all my programming has been OFFLINE.

The Haltech software should work on any of the Win9x platforms, but it was never written to support Win2000 or even NT. I don't use either Win 2000 or NT, but I have Win 98 on my laptop and my library of 30+versions of Haltech software runs fine on all of them.
From what I am told there is an issue with COM port configuration, and not with the OS itself.

I tried this and it didn't work. Hitman is correct in saying that it's in the com port as opposed to the OS. I can read and make adjustments fine. It just communicates with the ecu very slowly. It makes the datalog feature useless and downloading maps takes a good 15 minutes!
