New MSD DIS2 and DIS4 Problems with Haltech

Hello all,

I wanted to poll the rotary/haltech community here and find out about some problems that have been occurring with the latest versions of the DIS series of CDI's from MSD. I am getting a lot of phone calls from people that cant get them to work using the traditional 'Constant Duty / Rising Edge' setup that has always been the norm for MSD and most CDI boxes. The reason for setting it to Constant Duty, in case you were wondering, is because MSD are considered "Intelligent Igniters" which control their own Dwell, were as regular OEM ignition modules are "Dumb" and require computer controlled dwell (or charge time).

So, here lies the dilemma, what are these new MSD's supposedly set to? Has anybody bought MSD DIS2 or DIS4 within the last 6 months?? I am under the impression that there is some hardware changes inside these units that is causing the issue. I have used DIS' units in the past, and the setting has always been Constant Duty / Rising Edge and no problem, but not recently.

Can anybody help confirm this??

Your opinions are appreciated.

Thanks.

Spoke an MSD Tech on the phone and they said that for DIS units set the Dwell Mode to Constant Charge, the Edge to Rising (his words were "leading edge") and give it a charge time of 2.0-2.5mS no more, since it would brake up at high RPMs.

And they said 6A units do trigger using Constant Duty/Rising Edge.

Hummm... guess ill have to try that.

That's what been woking for me. The porblem seems to be when direct fire mode is used. Even some of the other ECU brands are having the same problems with the MSD's in direct fire mode. They function perfectly in wastespark mode though.
