New Haltech products at PRI...

Left my camera at home, so no pics. Sorry.

Haltech has been working on a series of modules that will connect to the ECUs via the CAN network. I had been shown an EGT module early this year, but the better news was at the PRI show. Look for the following soon after the first of the year:

- CAN I/O expansion module - These come in 4 and 8 channel flavors and will allow expansion of the number of inputs and outputs of the ECU. Each channel can be used for PWM or simple switched outputs, digital or analog inputs. Have a Sprint 500/RE ECU with no configurable inputs or outputs? Add this module and you can now use the advanced features of the Sport series!

- CAN EGT expansion module - As above, this will be a 4 channel module that allows interface of a K-type thermocouple to any of the Sprint/Sport/Pro ECUs.

- CAN hub module - Unfortunately, you will only be able to add one CAN module to the ECU without using a hub module. So, if you want to stack the I/O and EGT modules, you will need to purchase the hub module.

- 15 amp ignitor - Not a CAN interface, but exciting none the less. The Bosch ignitors that Haltech currently offers are limited to around 7 amps output. The new ignitors will be capable of 15 amps per channel to drive a hotter coil and/or allow a quicker saturation. These ignitors can pull double duty as an injector driver.

Yeah the CAN I/O mod is pretty trick for Haltech!

Hopefully they work on their component reliability a bit though..

Will this work with the E11? I need more outputs. Also for some reason my 2 aux outputs aren't working.

Unfortunately, they are not going to work with the old E* systems. That would require a firmware update, and that's not going to happen for the older systems.

Damn that sucks! I had a feeling at some point I was going to have to upgrade. Now I gotta find me a good deal and get rid of my old one.

I forgot to ask, is this the reason my 2 aux outputs don't work?

No. The aux outs should work. Are you running 1.89? I've had a ton of trouble with that version. You might try back dating the firmware or simply reloading it.

Feel free to hit me up in pm or call. I can help you try to sort it out.

Is the CAN I/O standalone, or does it need to be connected to an ECU? I guess my question is, is that a power distribution module used to control everything else on the car like headlights, tail lights, wipers, fans, pumps and electric motors?

Not Haltech but Racepak is coming out with something similar, supposed to be a little more affordable. If your running a Haltech with Racepak Dash Logger, you'll be able to log some of the outputs of the Smartwire also, at least that's what they stated.

The current CAN modules work in conjunction with the ECU. They're much different than the PDMs. Racepak's version does look pretty nice, but is still pricey. Haltech is working on their own version of a PDM. I've seen a prototype version, but don't expect it on the market for quite some time.

What is the bit rate of the CAN modules? Is the network SAE J1850 compliant or is it a proprietary design?

Hey Chris, is there an issue with your website?? I've tried going on it a couple of times to order some stuff and it's giving me problems. I thought it was my PC at first but then tried it with my laptop and had the same thing happen...

I talked to the guys at Haltech at PRI the year before and they said they were working on a PDM. I wasn't sure if I just misunderstood them and the CAN I/O was what they were referring to, or if they were still working on it.

I'll be curious as to how much that system is going to run. It has similar features to the Motec PDM30 which is nearly $2800. Shouldn't be much trouble to beat that price point!

I'd love to install two 10 or 15 circuit PDMs in my car, rather than one 30 circuit. Hopefully Racepak and Haltech come out with some more affordable options.

Not available yet. The thermocouple box is real close. The rest will follow.

Think I've seen somewhere the Racepak PDM would be about $1600. Spendy, but still a lot less than the other options. The price on these will surely come down in the years to come.

Our server has been hacked multiple times over the last few months. I certainly apologize for the inconvenience. We haven't seen where any customer information has been compromised. We are in the process of moving everything to a, hopefully, more secure site and doing some upgrades in the process. We're also going to be adding a lot of product. In the mean time, feel free to call or email and we can take care of any orders directly.

Yea, I went to your site and it downloaded this crazy annoying virus that wouldn't let me open ANY of my programs on my computer without trying to get me to buy some virus protection thing.

I'm needing the boost control solenoid and some LS1 coils... I know on my harness you built me, you made the ignition wiring on a connector and wanted to see what you charge for the wiring from that connector to the LS1 coils. I'll shoot you an email about it.

Thanks!

The modules have been done for some time. Still waiting on the new firmware to run them.
