Exclamation Need Help! What makes OEM Coils Crack and go Bad!!

I have had this issue going on for a while now and cant figure out whats going on. Both trailing coils are Getting damaged somehow. Im running factory ignitor with a haltech E6K. I have an MSD 6A on the Leading between the Ignitor and the coil and on the trailing im going straight from the ignitor to the coils through my own wiring. I ran a signal wire directly from the ignitor to the trailing coils and just used the factory power wire for 12v power. here is the final outcome. Both coils fry and the trailing in the ignitor goes bad.

Any ideas!?!

You got something screwed up.
The only time something like that happens is when the coils are being gounded consistently while power is on. Basically the coils never turn off. You either have something messed up in the wiring or a damaged igniter/ecu. Check your wiring becuase the signal/trigger wire is either pulling to ground or getting 12v positive.

Tell me something, if you haven an MSD 6A connected in between the leading igniter and coil, and the trailing are wired normally, how do you have the ignition output setup as? Constant Charge or Constant duty?

I just wanted to check that. But if cris says he's seen that happen i would listen to his suggestion.

I had the same issue when I had my haltech. I upgraded my coils to turboII and got rid of the FD coils but then my ignitor would get so hot you could not touch it. I then just got rid of the ignitor and ran 3 MSD's and never had any other issues after that.

Guys, also, remember, if you use a coil with a built in igniter, and put an MSD in the mix, the MSD (or any CDI for that matter) CANNOT be connected before the igniter, it has to be between the igniter and the coil, or remove the OEM igniter all together and just use the MSD.

If you leave the MSD send its signal to the igniter it wont work or will damage the igniter very quick.

Your car was functioning perfectly untill you changed something. Back step your changes and re check everything. Next step would be to take it to the doctor's office.
