I guess that would also be the case, since every engine is different, experimentation and testing will yield the best results on your engine.

At any rate, regular LS1 coils are proving to be sufficient for some very decent power levels. Unless 500-550+ HP is not decent?

lol. So any new information? By now all the installing / testing should be about done. I am thinking about ditching the stock ignition. At this point (even with my low power) the word stock makes me shiver, and I would like to take full advantage of my e11.

I was running 12 psi on a 62-1 and E85 with the truck coils and resistor plugs without breakup. I had to shut it down for winter so I didn't go any further.

I've run 20 psi on a piston engine with good results on the LS1 coils. By the end of this week we'll push the same engine to 27 psi once the meth injection is done.

I've been using the truck coils on my bridgeport 13B-RE with a GT35R. Made 405rwhp @ 11psi without really breaking a sweat and have been running strong for a couple of track events and about 150 dyno pulls. I will be back on the dyno this weekend at higher boost. Considering these things cost $20/ea on eBay this is pretty incredible!

I run MSD LS1 coils for leading and stock LS1s for trailing on my half-bridgeported 13B-REW with a Turbonetics T-66. Been running this ignition for 2 years now, its been rock-solid. In "street" trim I run no less than 23 psi of boost on 91 octane pump gas and methanol injection, 78/22 percent split after 15 psi. No breakup from 10 flat to 11.5 AFRs which is where it sits now.

I'm also running the LS2 coils on my SC300 1JZ-GTE setup with a E11v2. Solid setup.

The Mercury Coils are the best inductive coil with ignitor out there. The truck LS coils would be a next best. I am now using the Mercury coils over the LS's. The Mercury coils are definetly stronger.

You got pics of these coils? I was not aware they made a version with built in igniter. What charge time do they like Ryan?

They are also called the ING-1A coil, Pantera or BMEP coils on the efi forum. Here is a link to where I bought mine. From what I've seen you have to buy from BMEP, 034 Motorsports, or DIYAutoTune. Would be nice to figure out how to get these direct but I have had no luck with Mercury Marine or Mototronic.

http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/i...oil-p-394.html

I currently have the coils running 2.5 ms as they seem to charge much quicker than the LS's.

I've only been pushing the Mercury coils for two years or more.

They're very well suited for the rotary app since they charge so quickly. They are OE on two-stroke outboards, so they're designed to charge quickly. 3ms should get you 90% saturation from what I've been told. Only downside IMO is that they're physically bigger than the LSx coils and a little harder to package.

034 is my preferred source. They ship the coils with connector kits so you don't have to worry about sourcing those. I've also tried to find a decent wholesale outlet but I can't get them for less than the other vendors are selling them for.

Your the reason I'm using them now... I have found the same price wise. Just to let you know that plug is just a standard delco 5 pin AIC connector. Though DIYautotune has about the best price on those...

I agree, no problems with me... 407rwhp on 13b and I think the coils were napping.

I'll post some pictures of my setup.

Is there a correct wiring diagram floating around out there for the MSD LS2/7 coils?

I am currently dealing with a no spark issue and have reason to believe that I might have wired the coils incorrectly. A pinout diagram would be very helpful.

Cheers

The standard LS2 is:

A - Ground
B - Ground
C - Trigger
D - 12v switched

One would think the MSD "direct replacement" would have the same pinout.

I think the problem is in my wiring. After examining the two diagrams for the LS1 AND LS7 coils it appears that the ls2 coil pin ouy is flipped over 180 degrees. I never notived that! Guess I gotta buy new connectors!

i'll work on this.

Is it normal that the LS2 coils get warm? My front rotor leading coil seems to get much warmer then the other.

They'll work with the PFC. Not the best option IMO since the PFC will only allow you to run the leading coils in wastespark. The LS1 coil likes a charge time of around 6ms for a good spark. So, firing the leading coils twice per revolution at 6ms charge time, you hit 100% duty a little before 5000 rpm.

Used the stock brackets on my ING coils.
Need to figure out what kind of wires to use now?

That's a nice idea!

MSD sells unterminated kits. Cut to length and add the terminal and boot of your choice. They work well and don't cost an arm and a leg. Custom Magnecore wires are another $$$ option.
