Ignition breakup....drinking me crazy:(

Well, maybe I will turn to drinking if I can't figure this out....

I had just installed a MSD CDI box into the leading coil.

Car was running fine thru the breakin miles. Then on day I start her up and I drive it around. Anytime I try to give it some gas to accelerate it accelrates very roughly and jerky.

After that I disconnected the MSD CDI box and the problem was still there.

Everytime it hesitates the tach needle drops very very fast...almost like the blink of an eye. It drops down several hundred rpm...faster than the engine is doing.

So, I dont know why it is hesitating and why it affects the tach needle. I know the tach gets it info from the trailing coils.

So, I resoldered all the wiring to the CAS and the trailing coil. I have swapped trailing coils for a known working one. I will swap the CAS tomorrow.

I put a timing light on all the leads L and T. The L is firing fine. ?However, the trailing fires fine. But everytime there is a misfire it doesnt light up. And when it decels sometimes the trailing wires stop firing.

Any idea?

James

Swapped with new ones........

So, educate me on how the tach gets teh signal...do the spark plugs have to fire to send the signal...or is the tach signal based purley off of CAS speed?

Just trying to figure out why this hesitation is affecting the tach needle.

The car is undrivable like this

What kind of gain settings do you have? how do you have the spark output setup?

Stock trailing coil packs?

The tach signal is actually taken off the TOGGLE, so it has nothing to do with the coils firing.
