ideas on what to run ESP on?

I don't have a personal laptop, even my desktop hasn't been booted up in probably years. My wife and i just use ipads. Soon to install engine manegment, i need something to run the software. So, hoping for some ideas. how big of a screen is enough? large, 17, screen show more detail?

a touchscreen tablet/laptop looks cool, but i bet i would hate having to put it down on, or hold onto, the keyboard.

a decent laptop costs more than i would like to spend, as i'd want a nice one for my wife, then i'd just borrow it.

i could use my work laptop, my boss would probably have no problem. But i'm a contract worker, in theory i could be done with this job/location whenever.

anyone thought of something i haven't? thanks for any input.

I tune every day on an Asus UX360CA Ultrabook. Fast enough for everything, 10+hr battery life. Price was $500 from the Microsoft Academic Alliance Store.

Seriously doubt that ESP software takes any real computing power, so no need to buy anything close to a top-of-the-line processing beast.
Best advice I've got is to go for something small enough that it can fit in your lap easily while sitting in the cabin. I use my borrowed work computer, but its huge and I find it a major pain to use comfortably while sitting in the drivers seat.

Yeah, I like the idea of small, but just not sure I want to get something that would end up dedicated to the car. Thinking I will go with the work computer myself for a bit. Maybe Black Friday or after Christmas sales I can look for something. That might give my wallet a short break from this round of upgrades! Or maybe my wife will want a laptop for Christmas...
