Help with com port!!!
My old laptop died, so I had gotten another one. It is an older compaq with win 98. I am using the e6k compaq software. Here is my prblem, the new laptop has com 3, but the software uses com 1 , and com 2. I can not get them to commnicate. I know the e6k is good, beacause it still communicates with my old laptop. I just have to have the light off to see the screen, but it does commincate with it. Is there a way to get the software to com 3?
Yes, you can force the COM port to stay on COM1 or COM2.
Get into the Device Manager, and get the COM port Properties.
Click off automatic settings and set to "Basic Configuration 0000" (I think).
This should force the COM port to be set to COM1.

You may need to force it to use a lower com in the bios. Sometimes the mouse is setup if use com 1 and the modem is set to com 2 (or other devices) so the serial port is left with 3.
If thats the case, you can either try to switch the coms around or disable the modem or whatever device is using com 2 and then the serial will either bump down or you can manually change it.
