haltech sucks!!!

well after halfway through my tune the cable became unplugged and will not connect back...any suggestions??? I tested the connection by plugging in anonther e6x and it connects right away...is there any way that I can wipe the e6x clean like brand new or reset it ....whell I guess not if I can't connect at all huh.....now I have to send it back to haltech....I played with the com ports for 2 days no luck...like I said, I set everything up and try my e6x and it won't connect...but then i plugged another e6x in without changing anything and it connects right away????? did something freeze the ecu???

Do yourself a favor and get a microtech or motec and be done with it.

Send it in and get it looked at, if its less than a year old I believe its under warranty. Why did it come unplugged in the first place? Did you not screw the connectors in?

Thats great advice dude. I am sure you have had all three and you basing your opinion on past experiences. I don't care how much you pay or what brand you buy, if you abuse them they are going to fail. They are delicate pieces of electronics and are not designed to be idiot proof (not directed at OP).

To the OP, try posting on the Haltech forum. A word of advise though, don't use the same thread title It's only a tool and it's only as good as it's operator

the usb cable connection came apart when the laptop was moved from the front seat....something as simple as that is retarded...I don't even think the tunner was uploading any maps at the time just adjusting one...is that the reason it froze??? its silly how there isn't even a way to reset the ecu some how...how are they going to do it at haltech if they cant connect to it????hmmm???

They sprinkle pixie dust on it. Kinda like the mechanic fixes your car when it won't even start.

If you have communication with another known good ecu then it's possible the com chip failed in your box. I've seen a couple E6Xs have this issue. It's also quite possible it's an issue with the USB to serial adapter. Yes, even though it works with another box. Do you have access to a laptop with onboard serial port?

USB adapters! It just never fails!
What's funny I've seen many other ECU brands have the same or worse problems with the dreaded USB adapter. I feel sorry for the folks brave enough to do firmware changes with USB adapters. Just had to change out the chip in a popular plug-n-play unit that was the result of a USB adapter failure.

In contrast to that, if you are online, and the USB serial port connector comes off the ECU (its happened to me but i just had to restart the software and reconnect the cables) it makes the software go kaboom, and start popping up error windows nonstop.

But, still, its possible your comms chip is dead, send it, get it fixed, worst case scenario you pay 85 bucks to get it back to you fully functional and tested.

You didnt save your maps before the "disconnect"? I save mine ever 5 minutes... regardless.

Turn around times are usually short, no more than a week plus shipping time, but with the shows and all that the office does tend to get a little busy and repairs get put back a little, PRI is coming up now so, talk to Haltech to find out when it will be back to you.

I have worked with all 3... and Motec is far superior to just about anything on the market... next choice would be microtech if I was budget minded, and haltech a distant 3rd. Some people love it, I simply don't like it at all... Again that is personal preference.

and yes you are correct, if you abuse something it will fail.

Yeah I've had that happen. Had about 340 error windows by the time I could ctrl+alt+del end Halwin

Mine still connects though, no burnt comm's here.

To the OP: I had a dead box back when I first installed my E6X. Sent it to Temecula, had it checked, they shipped me another box right out. Only paid shipping one way and paid no service charge. It might be a different scenario for you given what happened, but I'm saying don't sweat it they'll take care of you.

And as others have said, it doesn't matter whether you have a box made by the hand of God constructed of platinum circuit boards with titanium wires - **** can still go wrong. Experience and careful installation/tuning are the most valuable assests - more so then the unit itself.

I have also worked with all those brands you have mentioned, and a few others, and if you ask me which system would i use other than haltech i would say "i dont know" because none seem to offer the package for the money that haltech has. Reliability, complement of features, cost, support, ease of use, etc..

No system is perfect, that is a fact, and the near perfect systems cost too much, so, it all boils down to 2 things, the person behind the lappy, and the flexibility of the system to do what it needs to do and do it well.

PS. To the OP: Haltech DOES NOT suck! Wait till you see the next generation of systems from Haltechs, the new Platinums, they will blow your mind!
