downloaded haltech E6K software from haltech.com running on windows XP,
it gives the error that can't open com 1 , i'm using usb to serial cable , no matter what i do it just says reconnect haltech, E6K software is not comparable with Windows XP ? your input is appreciated .

WindowsXP is not compatable with ANY DOS software...

You will neep Windows98 or previous in order to use the E6K DOS based software...

 

E6K software is DOS only. The problem is winXP runs dos programs through a sort of emulator and system resources like com ports are usually not available for these programs to access.

Easiest thing to do is make a boot diskette(or CD) with DOS on it. However, there may be some funky software out there that lets dos programs access com ports.

i will be downloading mvm or vmware and i will give it a try , hopefully that will solve my issue , thanks for your valuable input everybody .
