Haltech haltech instal questions in an FD
i have everything almost done. there are a few things i have questions about though. again this is in an FD.
i am not using any of the stock harness. i have conected everything but the following, and some of the questions i have, i could not figure out from the factory wiring diagram. (i am not to great with reading those diagrams)
1. road speed- i am guessing i should cut the conector off the stock trans harness. but also in those same 4 conections are the 'back-up' lights and 'neutrual switch'
where should these get re-conected to? i see the signal for them at connection [X-14] (pass kick pannel) but can not determine what conector, or color. it looks (reverse switch) like yellow/red wire. also looks like it is part of the emission harness and the dash harness, but the colors change from harness to harness.
2. i see the PWM outputs are grounds. i want to run one for rad. fans, and the other for BAC. in my process of trying to figure out the fan, i noticed something weird. i turned the ignition on and the fans (both) went on high and stayed there when i switched the ign off. when i went to turn the ign on again, the fans turn off. so...my question is this. did you pick up the wire for the fans in the engine bay at the relays, or somwhere in the dash harness? and what wire did you use for violet/white (or whatever PWM you used) and what about the power wire for the PWM's?
3. i have not even looked at the BAC hook up yet, does anyone have any info on how to do that?
4. for cas and ignightor, the wires left unused, can i just cut them off close to the e6k connection?
5. the green 'switched' power. where is the best place to get that signal? i do not want to use a switched that is going to turn off as i crank the motor.
6. the fuel pump wires. it says in the haltech manual to not use another inline relay, but to run it directly to the pump. is there such wires already in the car, or should i run (extend haltech wires) directly to the pump?
sorry if they are realy dumb questions, but i just want to mae sure i do it right. i also want to save some time by asking rather than "figuring" it out.

I can help with a couple things. To get the fans connect to the white w blue wire in the pass kickpanel. This wire comes from small black box that is the fan timer. You can give this wire ground to test to see if the fans kick on. Make sure the ign is on when giving the ground.
To get 12V IGN+ you can connect to the stock harness at 1B Black/White wire.
For the fuel pump. Cut the heavy gauge wires at the fuel pump. One is black and I think the other is White w red stripe. I extended the wires from the haltech. Ground one of them and connect the other orange one to the black wire on the fuel pump. Give the white /red wire on the fuel pump 12V. Make sure that this 12V connection is fused!
Take a look at www.ricemobile.net for more Haltech wiring info.

ok,
today i figured most of it out. last night i talkd to Josh (silver7) on the phone and got the 'jist' of what i had to do.
1. i m not going to use the BAC
2. as far as fans go, Josh told me he found a better way to wire them than to use that white/blue wire in kick pannel. he is going to let me know this weeend.
3. as far as my question about the roadspeed, i figured it out on the toilet this morning.
i cut the trans harness out, and pluged it back in and answered my own dumb question. i guess it was just TO obvious for me to figure out.
but in doing this, and from a response i got from the mailing list, what wire do i need to ground on the white and blue conectors from the trans harness. someone said that either a black or a black/white wire was used to ground all the guages.
what one is it?
is the ground the -black/white on from the BLUE connector?
or is it the -black wire from white connector?
in the Engine harness it looks like the black/white wire is a "common" wire. is that the ground?
4. i think i got the fuel pump down. maybe not...
the only thing i am not sure about is what you just said (Jaymz). do i realy need to run a fuse in the line?
(this was taken from ricemobile.net ) :
5. i am still unsure of where to get the "switched" signal that will not turn off while cranking. in my originl post i typed "green", but i meant to type GREY. Josh told me to use a black/white wire under the fuses that are on the battery + hook up. i did a test with a test light and it seemed to have power at all times.
were can i get a "switched" signal? one that will not turn off when cranking motor?
thanks for the hel guys.

There are many options to connect the fuel pump. I connected one of Haltech's fuel pump wires to constant power and the other one to the white/red wire under the master cylinder. That wire goes straight to the fuel pump without any relays interfering. This also allows you to disconnect the factory fuel pump resistor (looks like a little heat sink). The Haltech has a relay that controls when the fuel pump gets power, so the fuel pump is not running all the time, so connecting to the batter is fine. If you do not do a direct connection like I did you will need to hook up both of the wires from the stock wiring harness (1K and 1T). One controls the fuel pump threw the fuel pump resistor (used in the stock system to drop the voltage to the fuel pump during light load conditions) and one that goes straight to the fuel pump.
