haltech ign question

well, on the last leg of the install, just wondering if someone can help me out with the ignition. I'm running a E6 with a MSD6 and a MSD DIS-2, now the diagram shows 2 wires going to the crank sensor from the DIS 2. (i have a brown and blue one comming out of the box, doesnt look factory, but could be wrong, just not part of the factory wrap) now which two wires do the go to on the crank sensor, also the MSD6 has 2 wires left over (one red and one blue) also comming out of the box, Any help would be great. Thanks

Andrew

Wish I could help out with an answer but all I can suggest is that you may have better luck posting this question in the Haltech section.

First of all, if this is a real (OLD) *E6* and not an *E6K* or *E6X*, you really need to throw away that piece of ****.

Second, you need some SERIOUS help.
I would highly recommend getting in contact with someone who is knowledgable in Haltech and MSD installs.
The MSD *DOES NOT* wire directly into the Haltech.

Third, if you do a search for MSD in here, you should be able to find wiring diagrams on what each wire is for.
The THIN RED is for switched +12VDC turn on...

First of all, the original E6 cannot run in advanced mode.
I think you need the mod the stock CAS (knock off a bunch of teeth), just to make it run.
Then, you need reluctors (i.e. MSD 8509's) just to read the CAS signal - a pair of them.
It's just too much hassle for what you get - an E6K is much easier and cleaner to install without having to go through all that hassle.
Haltech doesn't support the E6 anymore for a while, so development is dead in the water.
At least the E6K is more recent, so development is better, although it's officially discontinued.

I got to mess with an E6A (successor of the E6), and it was a piece of ****.
The E6A still required external reluctors, and the comm program isn't as powerful as the E6K (and newer) stuff.

I haven't messed with any of the -8 or GM stuff.
I can't even confirm if you can even run it on a rotary?
A lot of stuff is "locked" from Haltech to run a GM 8-cylinder...

Ok ted i am somewhat confused, straighten me out

This is the E6S-8 system.....the only difference is that it has 4 more injector drivers than the E6S

http://www.haltech.com/downloads/e6s_v7_manual.pdf

Appendix B.6 shows setup for rotary engines

Ic that You cant even download a E6A manual

Is my system newer and more capable than the E6A??

In other words.....is The E6S more along the lines of the E6A or the E6X/K??

Thanks alot

Ah, you're right.
I'm getting them all mixed up.

The lineage goes:
E6
E6A
E6S
E6K
E6X

I believe the E6S still required external reluctors.
My memory tells me if the E6S has internal reluctors, they didn't work too well with the stock FC CAS.

The E6S is better than the E6A, but not quite up to the E6K standard that most 13B's have been using successfully proven with.

To clarify some of you guys:

E6 - cant handle a rotary, was only for standard triggering of old distributed cars (also needs a reluctor adaptor for when using magnetic pickups)
E6A - revision of the E6 with a few more features, still cant run a rotary (needs reluctor adaptors too)
E6S - More ignition options to read from, could handle the rotary in direct fire and toggle mode with its most modern firmware (some needed the reluctor adaptors the newer could use its internal reluctors with correct dip switch settings, or even jumper tweaking)
E6K - Even more ignition options, built in reluctors with variable gain, could handle lots of ignitions, no reluctor adapters needed. Had 4 PWMs for more features. (Some newer firmware had the dual wastegate and fuel/ignitino maps).
E6X - Current E6* version, has windows software and can handle even more ignition systems, has built in RA8 (very sensitive) internal reluctor adaptor, dual mapping, multiple map sensor selection, and newest ones have built in 2.5bar/22psi map sensor.

Hope that cleared everybody up.

New E6X has on-board MAP sensor?
Do you see a fitting where you can connect a hose to?
