haltech on 20b

never used a haltech, and i'm not familiar with it's abilities at all. . .any help here is really appreciated.

i'm in the middle of putting my 20b in my 87 turboII, and all i need are an intercooler and an ecu. i'm up in the air between the haltech e11v2 and the aem ems. i'm leaning towards the aem because it has so many more options, but the haltech has a better track record with rotaries.

i have a few questions about the haltech that i'm sure someone could answer for me. does the haltech have knock control? rev limiter? if not, does it allow for setup of these components via auxiliary wiring?

i've looked at the haltech website and found it's description, basically, i need to know what else it can do in addition to what they mention. thanks

THe Haltech does have a rev limiter. You can program a specific RPM that the engine will not rev beyond, and this limit can be enforce either by ignition cut (spark plug ignitors will not be allowed to support the engines attempt to advance in RPM) or fuel cut (Injector output will be limited to prevent increase in engine RPM)

For the 20B engine, I'm not sure that the Haltech can be programmed to opperate the ignition system. The 20B has the same type of leading/trailing spark system as the 13B, but it has an extra set of ignitors and coils which are timed to the 3rd rotor. Someone who can answer this question is RETed. He will more than likely see this thread and answer your questions much more adequately than I could, as he professionally installs and tunes Haltechs.

No.

rev limiter?
Yes.

For knock control, yes.
If you have a good electronics background, you can input the knock control sensor into a "black box" that ouputs a 0-5V signal back to the Haltech.
The E11 has two Aux In's, so if you're using one for the rev limiter (two-step), use the other one as an "Ignition Timing trim".
It might take some time to get the calibration right, but that's the least of your worries.
So, as knock goes up, ignition timing is retarded.
This is not something Haltech officially supports, but the theory is doable.
We've talked about this for some time on several Haltech forums, but no one has come out with a purchasable turn-key product...
