Funky Timing Problem

I am still messing around with my timing on my 87 TII, with an E6X installed. I have zeroed my timing, but in doing so, I have noticed a couple of quirks.

The first is, when I hook my timing light up to L1, sometimes, the light will fire completely 180 deg from the zero mark. I disconnect the timing light pickup, reconnect it, and it fires at the right spot? Cannot figure this one out. One thing that I haven't tried, is to see if it will also do it on L2.

The other problem that I have, is even with timing lock on, and CAS tightened down, my timing will advance 20 degrees? I was actually watching it tonight with the timing light, had the timing zeroed, and BAM, it jumped ahead about 20 degrees (just a visual guess). The engine changed it's tone, so I know that something did happen. Will the coolant and air correction maps kick in, when the timing lock is on? I know that the air or coolant weren't warm enough to cause any correction, but I just thought I would ask.

One final question.... should the spark edge and trigger edge be set to rising or falling, or a combination. From what I read in the manual, I got the impression that when an internal reluctor is chosen, the ECU automatically uses a falling edge, regardless of what is chosen.

Sorry for the long post, but this timing issue is causing me to pull out my hair!

Thanks,

Greg
