E6K problem on a 13B

Hello guys,

I need a lil advice on a problem I am experiencing with my E6K on the rotary. I am not getting the trailing signal to 'toggle' as it supposed to. Just trailing 2 is firing and not switching to trailing 1. I have the system:8 Version :14 Firmware presently, but accidentally, I had used an old version of the software (Ver. 6.09) and was wondering if this would have caused this problem.
It is all wired up correctly, cause I double checked the wiring. Off the top of my head , the Pink wire from the trailing ignitor goes to the White/Black Haltech wire and the White wire goes to the Green/Black Haltech wire. The both Tan wires go to a switched ignition +ve.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

dumb question: do you have it set to distributor, in the ignition settings page?

Funny, I had the same problem.
It looked like it was due to a Firmware problem, as one E6K was a lowly 6.2 and the other one was 6.14

Hi j9fd3s,

Dumb answer : It is on distributor. And also AUX. OUT is set to Ign. Toggle as well.... The ECU model I have is System 8 Version 14 , when going 'online' .

Check your CAS...for broken wires or wired up correctly

Hi there, I'll check back the wiring from the CAS, but as far as I think, if one of the trailing is firing, it means that it is wired up correctly...Since its only one leading pick-up & one trailing pick-up in the CAS. I think the toggle /switching would be done from the ECU. I'm goin to check for continuity from the GRN/BLK wire at the ignitor straight to the ECU's main jack, then maybe try another ECU ..

Hi Tim,

My harness is wired up correctly, as you have clearly indicated, as I am also using 2nd Gen coils too. I still haven't gotten another ECU to try and see if there is a difference. As soon as I do that I'll post my findings... but presently still running on leading only, with no complaints so far.

Ok, Everybody, I have solved this damn mystery today. The problem is the ECU ! I got another one to try on the car and the trailing fires as it suppose to ! So , that's it. For whatever reason, the leading outputs are working, but there seems to be hardware trouble with the trailing outputs... I'll have to send it to Oz to get repaired.

i have a 13B RE going into my 88 10AE. a guy named jeff at mazda racing told me to use the haltec F-10 EMS (ecu and complete wiring harness for $1,035) b/c thats what they recomend and have had no troulbe with. i was wondering is there any other EMS that i could use for cheaper. Or use a ecu/wirring harness from a FD3S (would it fit) on muy project? also what about the EMS from FC3s Store (fc3s.org) would those work ok. any replies email me @ Mixed_88TII@hotmail.com

i'm having the exact same problem with my e6k install.
i hope it's not the ecu...

are there any settings i can play with to see if i can get it to toggle?

rear trailing fires just fine, but front trailing is dead.
my tach reads 50%

My car uses a very unfamiliar Haltech the E6S-8 and I had the same problem, after many emails with the Hitman we finally discovered that the minor problem originated from the earlier haltech firmware. As to the firmware I have I dont remember now, but I will quote word for word what the Hitman told me in an email I have since printed and kept with my haltech notes.

Hitman Quote:-

"I found a few setup problems that should get the spark running on the trailing. For a start the spark mode in ignition setup should be set to DISTRIBUTOR. This enables the Mazda OEM type ignition output.

Second is another setup problem. Due to not too many people understanding the Mazda ignition, Haltech changed the Aux In/Out setting to the OEM Mazda ignition. This should be now set to DISABLED rather than rotary toggle. This was done on the E6S because a few people were not enabling this feature and wondering why the engine pinged slightly....(Trailing firing twice one one......and not on the other".

End Quote

I tried this and never had a problem again, some revisions were done on later model ECU that made the required adjustments for this oversight. It might just be the firmware that was loaded on your ECU. So try these settings and see what happens.

hmmmm. didn't work but thanks for the try.
it just made the one coil fire for both of them and wouldn't toggle.

i'll just disconnect the trails until i get it figured out.
