E6K Connection Problem
Okay so heres the deal,
I am connecting to my haltech through Windows XP, a USB - Serial Connection that I got from newegg, and then to the haltech.
I noticed after a bit that I had the wrong map in my haltech and as I went to load in the new map it started bogging down and popping up *recconect haltech* Discouraged I stop the transfer and went to adjust the map that was in there. I picked some fuel map bars and tried to go down, the program froze. After restarting the computer and tried to connect and nothing.
Sometimes it does get through a little bit and start to connect. Mostly I just sit at the main screen and it says reconnect haltech.
Upon reflection I have seen it drop off and come back over time but thought it was related to the usb-serial.
The haltech seems to run the car fine, I don't see anything weird with that so I don't think its something to do with power to the haltech.
Is there any diagnostics I can run to confirm? Where do I send the unit in to get fixed? Why did this have to happen the second I am ready to start tuning? BAH!!!

But I am still curious of my other question. I WAS ABLE to connect without using dosbox. So my question is, is shaky connection without dosbox normal? Or do most people see no connection at all?
You can't use haltech dos program without use dosbox or another program like virtual pc, because windows xp don't have support for dos programs and can't access serial ports and devices using direct irq.

Regardless, using a USB - Serial converter means the driver could generate the IRQ.
My point is, I was connecting just fine without using the dosbox up to a point. I was able to upload a map, I was able to set the timing, I was able to do a bunch of stuff until communication just dropped completely.
The point being, instead of saying that you cannot have connection without using dosbox, you could say connection sucks without dosbox.
