This a good idea? I was thinking abut using 4 corvette coils for each plus with my e8

 

In case you didnt know, these are what haltech sells now a days. They are giving great results and are fairly inexpensive, and come with built in igniters.

 

Based on what I have read the vette coils aka Denso 580s are sub-par because of a longer than usual dwell time requirement . . . .

 

reason i ask is because i have a freind with a 20b gt42 setup in his 2nd gen and is using them with great results so i was thinking about doing this.

 

Well, ive also seen them in action in modified RX-7 2nd gens with big turbos and running the E8 and the results are great. I will admit that in a very high horsepower application they would fall short and MSD coils would be the logical choice, but since most street/strip setups dont go that far these offer an affordable alternative to stock.

But!, ive been told by some people (including the HITman) that the stock coils and igniters when in good condition do have LOADS of power potential, something like 550+hp levels and higher.

Another view is that the LS1 coils offer a more compact design and wieght savings, specially when every pound you can shed off counts.

 

maybe i will just stick with my stock coils for now since i'm just doing a 60-1 turbo and most i'll be going is 18psi
