bucking, going lean, charging problems....

ok so my car has the alternator relocation bracket. It also started doing the same thing from the other thread... bucking... tach needle jumping, ect.

well in the other thread he replaced the alternator and everything was gravy... well i replaced mine and started it.

base battery volts.... 12.2v
car running 13.8v

good.... but wait read on!

when leaving the compelx i made a turn and heard a pop or a click from under the hood... and the car idled down a little. I checked voltage:

car running... 11.6
car off base voltage...... still 12.2v

so i drove around the block... and it still did the bucking and jumping thing but only after i got on it a little. I have a pwm set to shift light @ 7500 and it was blinking on and off really quick when bucking. the A/F was "LEAN" on the wideband... that means over 20:1

I let off asap.... never made it into boost.

i brought the car home from the around the block trip and checked the belts and the wires at the alternator.
My exciter wires are brittle looking and the wire is exposed just a little on them in spots. only about 2 inched i exposed and then dissapers in to the wrapped harness.

think the alternator died in 2 min?

is there a fuse that could pop and cause the alternator to not charge anymore?

fuggggggggggggg im so tired of messing with this car.

you can allways remove the alternator and take it to autozone for testing. wouldent think it would die that quick, unless it was wired wrong.

charlotte NC.

Im pretty sure i busted the new alternator somehow... the bearings in it are making all kinds of noise now. 5min alternator.... yay.

My car is still going lean under boost... has been for over a month now. I cant figure it out. Im about to take it somewhere i guess. Im just hating to think about it.... Rotorsports would take like 6months to fix it.... if they even could. Trouble shooting a problem is no fun.

I tested the old secondaries and they showed 5ohms (sp?) thats too high right?

Im still pretty sure the haltech is doing something to the secondaries causing the lean under boost thing.

this bucking problem is still something to do with bad alternators and the alternator relocation bracket.

well i have been in contact with rotorsports... Seems i was misinformed myself... They seem to be totally confident fixing my problems. My exaggerated time line was way off too.... The wait time is not as bad as i thought.

Im comming into some money soon... i guess its gonna be time to take it to the pros. I want my fast car back. 1.5 months of tinkering with no pay off is killing me.

Did you try running the car with no alternator in it.

well it WAS fixed for a few min.... then when the alternator failed (the pop sound) it started to mess with the cas signal again. The bearings in the alternator went.

The relocation bracket is not straight. I need to make or find some spacers to get the alternator to sit at the correct angle. How it sits now is hell on the bearings.

I want a FD alt badly.... need to try to find one.
