aftermarket coolant gauge and haltech questions

I have my haltech up and running great. I am using the stock coolant temp sensor and my readings on haltech are supposedly off a few degrees.

I want to install an autometer coolant gauge when i put in my new oil temp and pressure gauges.

Do I have to drill and tap into the coolant housing for the coolant sender?

I was just hoping someone knew if I could splice into the stock sensors wiring for my gauge.

thanks for any help

That is correct.

Not unless you can force the gauge to "learn" the characteristics" of the stock temp sensors.
I know only of the MoTeC ADL which can do this...

I figured that was the case. Its easy to tap the coolant housing, its just a pain to have to take it off. I guess while I am there I should probably to the thermowax shimming.

BTW reted I was reading your article I know what it does, but how much longer does it take to get to op temps? Should I let it idle for 5 min before I go drive?

Hmmm...are you talking about the cored thermostat?
Right now I'm still running the stock radiator, and it takes 5 to 10 minutes of easy driving to get up to temp.

If you're running the Haltech (as this it the section), if your water temp map is tuned nicely, the car should run very well even when cold.

oh, sorry for the confusion.
I was talking about the thermowax pellet. On your webpage you reccomend shimming it to allow better flow to the rotors and ecentric shaft.

I like to let my oil temps reach full temp before beating on my car, so I curious as to how much it effects the warm up time.

The reason I brought this up was cause your article mentions that the thermowax was there to allow better emissions and quicker warm up.
