Arrow GB INTEREST: FC Fire Extinguisher Mount (and extinguishers) - SBG

We were wondering if there is any interest to produce a fire extinguisher mount for the FC, similar to what we are doing for the FD (we've currently got 100+ people on board for the FD setup on rx7club).

I forgot to mention, optional Halotron and Halon extinguishers will be available, along with an optional quick release pin.

If you are interested in an extinguisher please post your name below. Halon extinguishers start at $115, and Halon at $190 (if you would like an extinguisher please note that. Also please DO NOT POST if you do not indend to follow through with payment if this GB materializes, we've had a ton of "tire-kickers" which has given a false sense of interest in products and has severely slowed down group buys in the past. While this is not a comitment to buy, please only post if you are seriously interested.

Please list: no extinguisher/Halotron/Halon, and standard pin/quick release

no interest? We're running off the FD ones in a couple weeks so if we're doing FC brackets that's the time. If there's not a substantial demand though it's not going to happen as we have a 100 piece minimum. Is it just the FD's that catch on fire?

Any idea if these would be allowed for track day use? Maybe a NASA/SCCA tech inspector can take a look.

We don't need 100 people but something 30-40 people committed would let us at least put it into production and stock the rest of the parts.

I posted in the 2nd gen section but for some reason the thread got moved by a mod to the "Pictures and non-technical" section

These should easily pass tech and have been computer modeled/tested to well over 30G's+

What's the difference between Halotron and Halon? I thought that Halon had been phased completely out due to EPA regs except for specific industrial uses and Halotron was the replacement.

And for everyone else spend the money to upgrade to Halotron or Halon! If you've never cleaned up a dry chemical fire extinguisher release it's not an easy task. Plus dry chemical retardant is not aluminum friendly and will pit and stain aluminum if let to sit.

Yes and no, it's a gray zone with halon, but long story short it's been completely phased out for home use. Halotron is Halon light, it's a cheaper environmentally friendly replacement. In order to source the Halon for automotive use we've had to join a Halon recyclers network (at the end of life the extinguishers can be returned to us for recycling into new Halon 1211 with no environmental impact). Halon has more stopping power than halotron but nearly twice the price.

But my personal take is if you want to salvage your car in a fire... you need a clean agent extinguisher .

We're gonna need MANY more people on board to make this thing happen, so if you guys want to see this enter production make sure to help spread the word!

If it helps, we can get the price down by another $15-$20 bucks or so if we PAINT the mounting brackets and CNC block instead of powdercoating + anodizing. We'll need to take a vote on that though.

An inexpensive 3" dry chem extinguisher from a local hardware store (~$20) can be used as a cost saving alternative to the more expensive halotron and halon, for those on a budget.

Are we tapped out as far as interest? If so it really won't feasible to produce these. We simply can't make a handful of them unfortunately.

Hey guys, unfortunately we're going to have to pull the plug on the FC setup. With 8 people "interested" in two months it looks like this is not going to materialize. If you guys want to spread the word we may be able to put something together later in the future, but at the moment we're gonna close this project and move on to the next one from lack of interest.

Thanks to everyone in this thread for your support.
