Bubble Tech Door Panels- Race version Now for sale!

2 Attachment(s)
We have officially released our door panels for sale!

Attachment 678364
Attachment 678365

Our FD3S Flat door panel were designed to be kick ass. They are inspired by Japanese culture Time Attack cars which have mastered the art of simplifying. We inherited their concept, refined and improved the fine details they lacked (yanno, since they are race cars and dont care... plus we like pretty stuff!) From every bolt to trim to connection point, no detail was overlooked. Starting from the door panel face, templates were modified until the exact profile of the door was achieved and matched the stock location. Moving upwards to the edge, the 90* bend is finished with a nice round soft filet to break the harsh bend. Along side the window, the door panel is trimmed to fill the gap with exact contour and is capped off with a rubber weather strip.

Features
  • Allows more clearance for bucket/racing seats
  • Allows more clearance for roll cage
  • Lighter than stock
  • No drilling/cutting required
  • 100% reversible

Includes
  • Driver/Passenger Door Panel
  • 2x Pull strap (choose your flavor!)
  • Hardware
  • 2x weather strip

These panels are made by RTM, this ensures the proper resin to fiber ratio. This means stronger parts that are not resin rich adding unnecessary weight!

Please note these are made to order and have various lead times
Fiberglass Version: $525 (1-2 weeks)
Carbon fiber Version (CF overlay): est $675-725 (2-3 weeks)
Full Carbon Fiber Version: +150 from above price (2-3 weeks)
**Carbon fiber versions will be available within the next 2 weeks**

You can place the order through our site:

We had some request for more pictures with the doors closed so thought we'd share these as well. Note the seats are Recaro Profi's and the did touch the stock door panels. As pictured, with our door panels they clear perfect with plentyyy of room to spare!

Bubble Tech 08-30-13 11:25 PM

Thanks evo!

So we've got a few questions about the door panels and front speakers so I'd like to address them here. These door panels were intended for "race use" so no modifications were done to keep the front speakers. After having a few people contacting us in regards to the front speaker, we will be taking some time to develop a "kit" allowing you to run front speakers. We will keep you posted on the development!

Hey, we are no longer selling these in fiberglass and have switched to aluminum, thus, allowing us to reduce the price dramatically! The aluminum sets are a little heavier then the composite version (still lighter then stock) but a lot cheaper at $350! You can pre-order on our website to ensure you get yours from the first batch!: FD3S Door Panels - Race Version

Did you settle on a gauge yet?

ptrhahn 09-18-13 03:52 PM

If you were to create a basic CF or anodized (black) AL shroud for the door latch guts, that would be pretty awesome. Ideally, you'd convert to a Miata latch mechanism, but something to improve the aesthetics there would be welcome.

Agreed, we do plan to make a cover for the "guts" of the handle along with modifying/adding something so you can run speakers with these panels as well but I havent gotten around to it yet.

We did look into that but decided against it for multiple reasons. the idea of these panels were to simplify. converting to a miata handle would add more cost, as well as how do you source miata handles since they are so old (couldnt find an other handle styles as well) also the driver side cables are actually longer then the passenger side cables restricting where you can move the handles. so switching to the miata handle (pull in wards) at the stock location wouldnt really make sense. the stock pull back style handles work perfect. To make the miata handles fit and make sense would also required extending/changing the passenger side cables and already its getting more complex for no reason besides adding cost and complexity. At least thats how we saw it. Why replace something if it works!:icon_tup:

jayscoobs 09-18-13 09:34 PM

Looks like if aftermarket seats are in my future these are the only way since seat options are limited with the stock door panel. The only thing I see that is a problem for me is the obvious gaps from the dash to the panel.

Best ideas I have for that is extending the dash to fit flush or maybe if you can possibly make a fiberglass version or something to mate up to the dash, Would be too much work though. Just a thought.

The gaps are really not that noticeable, well at least when i was in my friends car with the panels. But I understand, we initially were going to make a "street" version where the door panels would meet the dash and incorporate a speaker spot but we dont foresee enough interest to develop those. For these door panels it wasnt an issue because they were designed with the "race" mentality simplifying everything:icon_tup:

So lets say you're weird and dont like carbon fiber, you want the door panel but aluminum isnt your thing, well we've got yet another solution for you! We can wrap the panels in any fabric you would like, weather it be power rangers, hello kitty, checkered, or plain, we can do it!

Awesome! got any pictures? We finally just finished making our speaker brackets. These are used for added reinforcement and sit right behind the our door panels so when you mount the speaker it will be fastened through the door panel and bracket

Attachment 659229
Attachment 659230

They are screwed on with 3 screws to the door. You will simply need to drill holes to through the door panel and bracket then secure them with self tapping screws. We'll do some testing shortly:icon_tup:

I found these fiberglass speaker pods on ebay. Just some mockup pic's. I have to find exactly where to mount them and drill some pilot holes once I get the oem door cards off. Then I'm going to have my body shop spray em sating black.

cool! looking forward to seeing the results! How is the clearance from the speakers? do they hit your leg?

AHarada 10-15-13 08:10 PM

I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with some front speakers. Hopefully they'll be room for a variety of speakers!

Question about these panels, is the aluminum able to be powder coated? Or is the material not heavy enough for that? Thanks.

RE-Mamamia 01-17-14 04:02 PM

how's "real world" feedback on these? for example, does it rattle like crazy?

I actually have the camo set on my fd and to be honest, I love them. the fitment is really good, they look great and the strap is very sturdy. There isn't any rattling, and if there is my exhaust keeps me from ever noticing. it doesn't flap at all in the wind at all. Only thing i really had to get used to was not being able to lean on the armrest part.i feel like i have tons more room though.

Is yours a DD I'm asking because I'm wondering how hot the inside if the car gets from them.

the_glass_man 01-22-14 02:16 AM

Any chance you make them with out provisions for the window switches? Perhaps a button or peg and a window strap?

ptrhahn 01-25-14 05:58 PM

Any chance you could do the AL ones in black anodized/brushed? That would be a nice option.

I'm not sure what you mean? They do have cut outs for the window switches in the current version..

Any update on the CF version with provisions for speakers as well as covers for the "guts" covers?

Skeeg 02-09-14 05:11 PM

what size of wrap is needed to do both panels would you say?

LuvingMy93FD 02-11-14 03:19 AM

The race version looks great in carbon. I was thinking though, how do u think they would look wrapped in alacantra? Not saying you should provide that option, but might give it a more luxury race feel to it. Tempted to buy the aluminum ones and wrap them. Actually thinking about it, it would probably be cheaper than the carbon version if u can find a decent bulk deal on alacantra.

LuvingMy93FD 02-11-14 03:25 AM

Spelled alcantara wrong lol, I only found genuine alcantara for 100 bucks a yard 36 length by 55, might be able to wrap it.

Speaker brackets ares 90% done, just need to make the jig. I'm currently waiting for a tool to be delivered so i can finish:)
Door handle covers still have not been started:(

We ship the panels in a 24"x36" box with some space to move around. so a sheet 24"x36" will be plenty of material for you to have excess to wrap around the panel. (this is per door panel)

We've had a few customers wrap their aluminum panels in suede which is pretty similar.. it does modernize the feel a bit. We do provide wrapping services for an additional $40 + Material if you would like to go that route or you can simply wrap them yourself. The aluminum panels are perfect for wrapping!

Yes, that would be plenty to wrap, you may even be able to get 3 panels out of that fabric (if you mess up once!)

Yes, our carbon panels are a bit pricey:( but its because we vacuum infuse them and have them professionally clear coated, Unlike most Manufactures who use "UV Resistant" gelcoats that eventually yellow and fade.

A CF Vinyl is a nice alternative if that is the look youre trying to achieve for less!:icon_tup:
I'd recommend 3m's DiNoc over their 1080 CF vinyl.. the 1080 looks rather fake imo, whereas the DiNoc looks much more realistic. just my .02
