Looking at the photo I think I'd be saving around between 2or 3 inches which would be perfect.

If anyone has these door panels and needs to cut a hole for speakers, I have a 5 1/4" hole saw and arbor. I used it once to do mine and won't need it again.

Question: do these sit completely flush on the door or is there room behind them? I'm looking to dynamat the door and fit these on top. Thanks.

Yes, i would consider them sitting completely flush. What purpose are you adding the dynamat for? I'm only asking because I hated that "tingy" cheap sound the door made when you slammed it closed so I used quiet coat, which is a paint on sound deadener on the inside of the door skin which was a night and day difference. If you are applying it for the same reason, I'd suggest applying it there vs where the door panel sits:icon_tup: |

Yup same reasons for me haha. I'll look into that. So it's applied onto the panel itself?

I love the carbon panels but i cant justify 800 for those. But i saw a gold anodized aluminum piece that i really like. Any pictures of the gold aluminum panels and the suede covered panels? And prices on both please.
|
Do you also offer a set of holes for a "rotated" latch assembly? I will have a roll bar with the side bars that slant down toward the footwells. Sorry if this has already been asked.

FD3S Race Door Panels ? Bubble Tech |
My panels came in yesterday. Took less than a week to get them. They were super quick to install and look fantastic.
Thanks for the quality work! Well worth the money guys! You won't be disappointed. |
love these doors, but not a big fan of the exposed door opener.
Has anyone thought about putting a more enclosed door opener? I see amemiya uses the Miata door opener in one of their cars http://club13b.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/6.jpg |
i would love a set of these if the cables for the locks and handles werent so exposed. like if a a simple cover was made to house them
|
guys, buy his door panels and some Miata door hands. You can probably find those at any junkyard; or even order them, Miata parts are dirt cheap.
It will work and be completely functional. |

I know Alex Rodriguez did it to his car.

I haven't spoken with Benny about it yet but, I am looking to use 991 cup car door handles...

Foil backed insulation / Dynamat and simple weather stripping around the edge would be an easy solve for this. |

[QUOTE=Butter Mittens;11848408] I haven't spoken with Benny about it yet but, I am looking to use 991 cup car door handles... I have been getting a bunch of request for porsche style pulls. After looking into it some more I will be attempting to redesign the door latch with a "pull strap" style handle. Previously I avoided this because I would have to source new cables to relocate the latches however I realized I can replace it with a custom rod instead :lol:We are currently in the process of moving to our new shop and getting settled in so we will be laying low for January and pick back up in February (only shipping items in stock) Sorry for any inconvenience! |
Seems like if you're going to do the work, the Miata style handle is the best. Easily available, custom options available... and frankly better looking than that Porsche Cup handle, which looks like a generic part off of a Ford Focus or something.

I looked into the Miata handles, in addition to a few other others, as well... I suppose, at the end of the day, it simply comes down to personal preference. The Porsche item is quite robust, slightly more than the plastic Miata items, in my opinion. In terms of availability, Porsche has continued to use OEM 944 handles as the base to all of their Cup cars, as far as I have seen. They have simply changed the bezel depending on the application / door panel. Here is an example of a 997 Cup handle (note the similar handle style, and differing bezel, to the above 991 Cup example)... http://www.rev.com.sg/wp-content/upl...-Car-Doors.jpg The 944 handles are quite widely available as well. Just my 2¢. :) |
I wouldn't get enamored with it just because it's Porsche. I'm sure it's "robust", but most of that older Porsche stuff (if it's a 944 part) is VW parts bin stuff. Design wise it doesn't hold a candle to the Miata latches, which are art, and can be customized with all sorts of metal and polished touches if you're so inclined.
LOVE those scalloped carbon doors though... would be awesome to make a scalloped carbon panel for RX7 doors for those who cut the door sheet metal for NASCAR-style door bars. |
'85.5 and up 944 door handles are a Porsche specific part and are quite nice.
There are also several different style of Porsche pull handles - some use the actual colored pull to release the latch and a second, easier to grab pull to shut the door. Either way, if a set of panels is made with a Porsche style release I'll purchase a set. |
Any news on the pull style door panel =)
Cash in hand, ready to buy a set now ! [QUOTE=Bubble Tech;11852695]They shouldn't. The front perimeter is held on by 4 push grommets, then the 3 screws that secure the door handle in the middle, then on the top 90* lip, there are 2 tabs bent down to prevent the top lip from being pulled forward:icon_tup:

are these planned to be re-produced again? website shows out of stock
|
probably not for a while since the shop burned down
|
Just and update: So we are starting to get things moving again. We've delayed restocking the door panels because we've been trying to work on ditching the stock door latches and converting the pull strap to unlatch the door. After weeks of searching for suppliers, I might have finally found one. I have a order of samples that should be coming in hopefully next week to prototype with.
Now for the next question, I need some opinions/feedback from those of you who are interested in these... Would you care if we deleted the door lock mechanism from the inside? Our thought is you don't really need to lock the doors when you are in the car and you will still be able to lock the doors from the outside. Also since these are geared towards track cars, door locks aren't a real necessity. Also it will help lower the cost as less we wouldn't have to source the appropriate hardware and most likely make an additional bracket.. Thoughts? |
Those who get these panels will have alot of $$ and sweat invested in their cars, for sure we won't be rolling through compton in our FDs.
I'm ok with not being able to lock the door from inside. As long as it still locks from the outside. |
happy to have no locking function on the inside
|
I am perhaps in the minority, but I actually like version 1 with the exposed oem assembly. I'm excited for the new version though, and I would also strongly prefer the ability to lock the car.

I am interested in these, as well, and would like to retain stock locking function from the inside. I also wouldn't mind paying more for this feature.
|
I am definitely buying a set of these door panels in CF and DO want the locks...
