IRP Shop Review

Hey guys,
I just wanted to let everyone know about my experience with IR Performance (IRP) in Metuchen, NJ.

I was in the military stationed overseas in Guam one month after buying my first FD. I was trying to get my car running right, but the car had many issues, and I did not have much time to work on it between deployments. My stock injectors were leaking fuel all over the block. I had to remove my intercooler and drain the oil out of it at the end of every week from the blown oil seals on the stock twins. My spark plugs would fowl and had to be replaced every two weeks. There was a Nalgene bottle instead of a coolant expansion tank, and it kept filling with an oil residue. One day I started the car in my garage and heard three really loud bangs, and the motor was no longer drawing vacuum. So here I am, on a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific with a dead RX-7 and no way to get it working before I have to move back to the states.

I posted my situation on the forum like a distress call and a few stateside shops initially answered, but IRP was the only shop that followed through with a plan on how to retrieve my car and get it running. I had to get special approval for the military to ship my non running car prior to my transfer date. Then I transferred power of attorney for my car to Ihor at IRP. He managed to handle all the legal red tape and retrieve my car from the shipping port in Edison, NJ and transported it to their shop. All this was done at no cost!

Rich and Ihor built a stage 3 motor for my car and paired it with a GT3574 turbo kit from Aspec. They cleaned up all the things that were previously half assed on my car like the roofing nails plugging vacuum lines, faulty oil metering pump, bad map sensor, and my Nalgene coolant expansion tank. When I looked under the hood, after they worked on it, I was amazed with their attention to detail. Every wire and major vacuum line was shielded in DEI looms, all exhaust components were well wrapped and secured with lock wire, and small OEM parts that had been missing were replaced (like the transmission undertray) at no extra cost.

The invoices were comprehensive and rates were very reasonable. Either Ihor or Rich called to provide weekly status updates throughout the project. The shop itself is located right next to a major Amtrak station which made picking up the car super easy. After getting the car home, I received emails from the shop asking how the car was running and if there were any issues. The car performed well on the Dyno and made a respectable 476WHP and 412ftlbs of torque. The engine has been extremely reliable. The FD pulls daily driver duty until the roads get salted and made the trip from Massachusetts to DGRR last year with no problems what so ever.

IR Performance is a great shop with skilled mechanics working there, but most importantly they actually care about the performance and longevity of your car as if it were their own.
