I'm not so much on a mission to "master" everything so much as I am to understand it. Most importantly be able to talk about help intelligently or at least know where to find the answer. The rotary has always been one of those engines, but I never quite got around to it...lol. So now with being ***** deep in a push rod build. Owning a OHC modular motor and with a few imports in my past I want to get my hands on or around a rotary motor. These things are like god damn unicorns and 90% of the people who say anything about them. Sound like idiots and have no freaking clue about anything. So me being who I am figured I'd use my very old membership here and actually start to learn something...lol. So what are some good publications to buy and start to thumb threw ?

easiest way would be to just get a motor or 2 and start pulling them apart.
there are some great dvd's out there with full instructions on a rotary rebuild. i especially like Bruce Turrentine's one - concise and full of good tips http://www.rotaryaviation.com/overhaul_video.htm
maybe if you want a book- rotary engine by kenichi yamamoto - that covers a lot of the technical and specific details. http://rx7.pw.cx/guides_manuals/coll...to%20re-ky.pdf
there's bits and pieces of information all over the place, just not all in one location :-)
some more handy things here:
