What exactly is a catback exhaust

Sorry, but I am rather new to the car world. But I am trying to learn. So could someone tell what is a catback exhaust? I would like to know.

a cat-back exhaust is an aftermarket exhaust that goes from the catalitic converter (or midpipe) to the tail pipe. so it is the back 1/3 or so of the exhaust system

just adding to what Beny said, the purpose is to get an increase in exhaust flow, without significantly altering the emissions of the car.

just for clarity - a cat-back exhaust does not replace the stock catalytic converter. it bolts on after (behind) the converter.
