Turbo info

I Just got my 1st 2Gen T2 and there alot to be learned here vs. an N/A rotary. So, i've been doing my homework and checking out all the great info on the forum regarding upgrades. I have a question regarding the wastegate and a Blow off valve. I'm not sure if there the same and are referred to either way or what ! I Hope this isn't that weird of a question but i need to know or learn some how.

Wastegate opens up the exhaust so it can bypass internally/externally over boost pressure in the exhaust system, slowing down turbo spool speed. A blowoff valve reduces pressure in the intake system between the turbo and throttle body.
