Transmission/clutch/flywheel Question

Hey, Im looking to put a different transmission in my car. The T-56 (6-speed) to be exact. I was talking with a camaro guy and he said that I need to fabricate an adaptor plate for the transmission to bolt up to the RX-7 bellhousing, but he said that I should check if the transmission's output shaft and see if it matches up with the clutch and flywheel.
Seeing that I dont know much aboot flywheels and clutches, let alone where they mount. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if something like that would work. Would I have to use a clutch and flywheel that is compatible with the T-56? The flywheel and clutch are connected to the back of the engine inbetween it and the tranny, right?
If anyone could provide any help that would be great!

By the way, the engine its hooking up to is a Second Gen Turbo II and the transmission is out of camaros, corvettes, vipers, etc.

Thanks!
Snuffs

PS- *whispers* Im Batman!

you will have to build a custom adapter for the bellhousing to mate with the transmission, have a custom clutch disc built, may need to machine transmission input shaft so pilot bearing fits, and a hydraulic throw out bearing will probably need to be used on the custom clutch parts. also things like shifter linkages and shifter placement, transmission cross members, speedo gears and cables will need to be fabricated. All this can be done and someone in the world has probably done it, but if this is not clear to you I might start with a simpler project first. the engine and trans will need to be out of the car to get all the parts built. good luck and let us know how it goes.

Wouldn't a TII tranny be more practical? Or maybe a Miata 6-speed?

But if you must.

I know there are companies out there that make a Rotary to T-5 adaptor or belhousing or whatever it is to get a T-5 to bolt into a seven.

If I am not mistaken there are 5.0 owners that put in T-56's so there should be no problem is finding and assembling parts to bolt this sucker to the motor. tims is right about the linkages and speedo attachments though.

Just my $.02

Thanks. I found the first two a couple days ago actually, but the third one is new.
Now on the third page there http://www.ddperformance.com/T56%20Kits.htm it says that the kit works with the stock style 10 spline clutches. Does that mean that I could just use a clutch from a 5.0L or something instead of getting a custom clutch disc built like Tims said?

I emailed the guy that makes and sells the adaptor kit that allows a T-5 to bolt up to the rotary engine with the quote up above and he replied with this...

"Two different size clutches are used by Mazda. Stock Ford discs are available to fit. We provide a new pilot bushing, the Ford clutch release bearing is not changed. The trans sits on an angle so the shifter lever must be bent. A new speed-o-cable will probably be needed, and the crossmember must be modified."

So Im assuming that it wouldnt be any different for the T-56

What part is the crossmember?
