Timing

Hey guys I went to adjust my timing the other day. I put the timing lock on, then set the mark with the one of the two notches in the main pulley that was colored. The left one. Car was running fine at first but then it got funny, like blap blap blap etc... at idle. Checked the manual. aparently the leading notch is the RIGHT one! So I move the mark over... I still get the same blap blap at idle however now my idle is 1000 rpm instead of 750. Honestly I have no idea how to lower the idle, the stock thing it shows in the manual is gone... ALSO with the timing set "properly" I get a hesitation while boosting. Not cool. Did I mention when I re-installed the crank angle sensor as per the manual it wouldnt start? I had to take it out and spin it a few teeth at a time until it would. I think its around 180 degrees off. This car is F-ing perplexing. *pulls hair out* Is it possible I need to set everything properly then adjust the ignition setting offsets in the Haltech until the car works?
