Arrow timing?

After replacing my motor does the timing need to be set to keep the car running? It starts but only stays on for 4 seconds. afm is plugged in. 88 13-b non turbo into an 87 gxl both m/t. tried wiring harness from the 88 engine and the harness from the 87. Should I try and push start it? Anything anything...........
