Tach problems

'85 GS, dead tach, hasn't worked since I got the car. Replaced the distributor and the tach, still nothing. What else can I try? I'm ready to (gasp) take it the dealer.

Okay, thanks, I'll try anything. Is that the one on the front or side of the distributor? Are they interchangeable?

make sure that the wire that goes on the trailing coil's negative is connected. otherwise, check for open circuit between the coil and igniter. its easier just to run new wires.

I'm going to try running a wire directly from the coil to the trailing igniter, once I figure out which is which. One way or another I'm going to get it to work.
