Why doesn't Mazda design a Hybrid rotary? It seems that the rotary engine would be well suited for electronic assist application due to it's semi-circularly rotating operation.

Unreliable mazda turbo

I thought the biggest reason for the 13b turbo motors to fail were due to the restrictions of the cat (precat) I know from my conquest/starion days, clogged cats create more backpressure, and with the increased exhaust energy of the rx, that related to increased heat retention in the turbo and engine, creating early engine failures. If they take care to use better materials in the cars now shouldnt that problem be greatly reduced? I know people with modified rx7 (fd's) that have reduced the number of cats and converted to single turbos, faster cars and more reliable (as long as you dont run out of fuel on that back rotor hahaha)

Just my penny,

H

Maybe that would all depend on the sales and feedback that Mazda sees and gets with the Rx8?

It's been mentioned that the renesis will be more thermally efficient then previous engines due to the side ports but if this is the case then shouldnt the exhaust tempertures be hotter?

go to the first gen section and find manntis' little vid on this. it will help you understand the thermal efficiency.

i think another problem of turbocharging the renesis is the 10:1 compression. its already running premium na and with that high of compression, you are looking at an easily popped motor. the only get around i see is using rew rotors.

and peejay, i can see you in an old "hotdog" open cockpit racecar with the bicycle wheels.
