Sitting Engine that needs started up.

Hi im David.... I got a huge question for you guys, my 93 rx7 been sitting for five years and really worried the seals will break/crack if I just start it up. What's the best way to lube them up before running the car? Turn it over and let it sit over and over again? Can I get away with filling the engine with more oil, and if so how much to let it sit in before told raining it. Well if anyone has a answer and or good ideas let me know. Just though about asking what the proper burping is for a rx7 , installing all new cooling system. I swear I read it years ago, but had a brain fart....

Well about to just dump two quarts of extra oil in the engine to set, then drain and try to start the Fd up in a week. Hoping for advise, just don't want to mess up the seals from being dry....

The parts that get hit by oil from the oil pan are most likely fine.
2 extra quarts of oil is doing squat.Don't do that.
It is the INTERNAl parts,like the apex seals that should have lube on them.That means that the engine should have been fogged with oil through the spark plug holes to keep them nice and lubed.

Thanks, was a very good article. It was basically what I though other than replacing all the hoses and turning the engine over by hand was a good idea. Guess ill skip my adding to extra quarts and letting it sit, ill just do it via spark plug and turn it through out the week. Then drain everything once or twice before start up time. Thanks for the post, your a life saver or should I say a FD3 Saver

Actually I have one other question for you and others. Ordered a new radiator, and it should be here soon. I know rx7 need to be burped from reading this a long time ago. Also due to flushing the system liquid what is the proper way to burp the air bubbles out, totally forgot what I read ages ago. I know one of the ways people try is by lifting the car way up. Well if you read this it be nice to hear your two cents...

i always drill a small hole in the sheet metal part of the t-stat to egual out the initial pressure before and after the t-stat. it also allows trapped air to escape , only downside is it takes longer to warm up.. your best bet is to raise the car so your fill point is the highest

..and that is because your Thermostat is most likely NOT OEM.
The OEM thermostat has a jiggle pin for this purpose.
Running anything other than an OEM thermostat is not in my vocabulary,I don't care how much they ask for it at the dealer.

OP: I am not familiar with the FD cooling system,other than it has an AST that is Crap...sorry,I guess the Search button may be getting used in your future..but you can't say I didn't try!
I'm sure others that have FD's will pop on quick and give you a hand too.
