Side housing wear

I remember seeing in the FSM them using a straight edge of some sort, an I found this "plate" wear measuring tool that Pineapple racing has.

I'm curious to what some of you have used to measure side housing wear since I need to check my plates?

the straight edge, along with a feeler gauge, is used to measure the amount of warpage in a plate. that gauge would be used to measure step wear like it says in the description. i've never actually measured step wear. if u can feel it with ur finger nail, then they need to be either lapped or resurfaced.
