Should I get an ECU?

Ok so i have a stock 1987 RX-7 Base Model and its full stock. should i get an ECU now or wait till i have some parts installed before i get an ECU. also what kind of ECU. ive heard of ones you can mod yourself with your computer and others that do it for you which one should i buy if i get one?

just get it early on, that way you dont't have to worry about saving money later.. an ecu is always a good investment.

alright cool. also do you know what kind of ECU would be good? I've seen a lot but which on would go well with an RX-7

hatech is good but that my opinon do some research on the one you might be interested in and
make sure you know how to tune it to. SOME TIMES the base map is only good to start it and
expect it not to be fuel efficient. other ecu's that i know of are microtech, wolf3d, aem ems, powerfc,
and rtek. there are more but thats all i can remember..

If you're confortable with building electronics and tuning by laptop, MegaSquirt is the the least expensive and most adaptable way to go. You'll find support here and on the main Megasquirt forum. Browse through the engine management forum befor you make your descion.
