shifter questions ! with pics!

so im currently going through my new gtu looking for things to fix.
and i stumbled across this.

my shift is loose. looser than average in my opinion.
and the rubber boot is torn

and suggestions?
replace shifter bushing?
get a short shifter to fix the whole thing?

and also dont like how i can see the ground if i remove that carpet material

That rubber boot is pretty much pointless to replace. I bought a new one for my car and it ripped within a few thousand k. If your shifter is loose replacing the shifter bushings is your best bet!
