Secondary Fuel Injector Loaction. Why?

Basic question for anyone in the know,

Why did Mazda decide to locate the seconary injectors in the LIM?

If they located an injector in each the front and rear iron in the same way they did the injectors in the center iron, I would have thought there would be benefits to reduced wall wetting and more precise injector timing due to reduced transit times. The four inline injectors could share a comon fuel rail which equals less parts and complexity as well. Im sure they had their reasons but I'm coming up short in my search and I'm working on a project right now which brought this question to my attention. Thanks!
