Exclamation Secondary butterflies on inside of the intake manifold...

I am rebuilding my FD3S now, and I'm removing the AWS(accelerated warm-up system). I hear that you must cut out/remove the secondary butterflies that are inside the intake manifold, behind the main butterflies, because they just stay in the open and inactive state when the AWS is removed. So do I remove them or just leave them open, and I want to make power.

Those are the double throttle plates, nothing to do with AWS. It keeps you from hitting full boost until your motor is warm.

Drill out the four mushroomed screws, then slide the pair of plates out. After that, you can remove the linkage arm. You'll need a block off plate, www.GothamRacing.com sells a kit.

Main reason to remove it is for a possible solenoid failure. If the Double Throttle solenoid fails, the plates will not operate proper and as you can imagine it can cause a serious boost problem.

As stated there are no real power gains removing it, its just more for simplicity. You will have to make sure to take it easy on boost until the car warms up since you will be removing the mechanism which does that for you now.
