Salvageable FC motor?

I helped a friend get his car running and he wanted to give me something for it and he gave me a blown TII motor. I broke it open and found the center plate of the motor (I can not remember the proper name but you get the point) was scorched. It is not in any pattern at all and one scorch is about 2" long and 1" tall and the other 3 are about 1" circles. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else or if anyone knows what would have caused it. I know the motor was just built to handle a 60-1 and the break-in period had just been finished and the guy punched it for the first time and it blew. I am guessing lack of fuel but I just wanted to get another opinion. It looks like it will not be salvageable but if anyone has experienced this and has salvaged this part please let me know, it would save me some money. I also do not know what year it came out of and I was wondering how I could tell if it was out of an s4 or s5.
Thanks,
-Philip

Clean the housings with Denatured alchohol and a clean rag to get off any deposits/marks.

I cleaned the surface but their is still a black scorched spot that is actually scratched. It is strange because when I placed the rotor back on the plate all of the scorch marks were covered by the rotor, even when I spin it???
Thanks,

Metal is "burnt".
This is most likely from lack of (oil) lubrication.
I wouldn't resuse it, as the metal gets really brittle from abuse like that.

I would also double-check all the parts, especially the thrust washers in the front cover and all the bearings.
Abuse like that could also mean overrevs, and the rotor just colliding with the housing due to the abuse.
